End-to-end encryption (E2EE) means files are encrypted on your device before being uploaded. Only you hold the decryption key. MEGA's servers store only the encrypted data — no one at MEGA can see your file contents, which provides a much higher level of privacy than standard cloud providers.
Because of E2EE, MEGA does not store your password server-side and cannot reset it for you. Your only recovery option is the Recovery Key generated when you signed up. Always store this key in a safe place — without it, a forgotten password means permanent loss of access to your files.
Yes. Free accounts have a monthly bandwidth quota. Once exceeded, download speeds are temporarily throttled. If you regularly share large files, upgrading to a Pro plan removes transfer limits and gives more storage.
